Doug, your catch on podcast artwork caught my eye as well. I don't doubt that is Edison Research found out, I disagree that this is actually happening. But, as in so many "what caught your attention" questions, too many variables. When I was in radio, we always tried to be the top of recall, encouraging our advertisers to include in their commercials "mention you heard this on WXYX (or CDEF)." And the advertiser would hear feedback "in the wild" about their radio advertising months after the campaign had completed. I think artwork is still an important part of what makes a podcast a show. But I will be putting more focus on this moving forward with my clients.

Webster's point lands harder every quarter — the platforms will always optimize for their business, not yours. The only rational response is to own the relationship: an email list is the one audience asset no platform can deprioritize. We built PodSubs for exactly that reality — podcasters claim their show and build an email list at podsubs.com, and listeners find a favorite podcast and join its list. Platforms come and go; the list is yours.
